This kit contains all you need to set up an electric fence system around your chickens, and it comes with full instructions for setting it up and telephone support is always available if you need it.

The kit includes our new Kite HLM40 energiser from Hotline, a 25m roll of green poultry netting, 25m roll of lead out cable, 2 crocodile clips and a half metre earth stake.

To set up: Unroll the netting and push the posts into the ground preferably to enclose your hens and their house in a square to prevent predator intrusion from all sides (although you could make different shaps or have it in one long line if you wish). Install the energiser near a 3-pin socket and use the lead-out cable to take the power to the fence and to connect to the earth stake using the crocodile clips. Turn on the power and thats it - basically. Full installation instructions provided with the kit.

You can select extra items to add to your kit by scrolling down this page. so if your ground is uneven or sloping it may be an idea to add more flexiposts or corner posts. You could also add a pocket fence tester or indicator light tube to tell whether the fence is working correctly.

We have included here the new dual power energiser from Hotline as a mains energiser but it can also be used as a battery energiser for a 12v battery - so if you change your mind or find you cannot use mains anymore, simply add a 12v battery to the system and then the energsier can be placed outside (on a wall or post) near to the fence. This Gemini 40 Dual Power energiser does have to be housed under cover (when used in a mains system) and have access to mains electricity. It simply plugs into a 3-pin mains socket and is attached to the fence and the earth spike using the double insulated lead-out cable supplied. Full installation instructions are included.

We supply the Gemini 40 unit with this kit for a 25m netting kit (which will cover an area of approx 39 sq m or 20ft square), but it could power a longer (50m) net if required, or 2 x 25m nets. The Gemini Energiser is suitable for use in a garden environment, with a 1 watt consumption and output of 0.3 joules.

Options to add to this kit are a Fence Indicator Light which flashes with the pulses of the fence. This acts as a deterrent and also gives quick visual sign that the fence is working, or, a Fence Voltage Alert which clips on to the fence and a red light will flash if the fence is not on or if the voltage drops below a certain level (see links below). When using with a mains system it may be worth considering installing a Cut-out Switch near the fence in order to turn it on and off easily.

If your ground is sloping or particularly uneven it may be worth considering adding more Black Flexi Posts which also avoids the frustration of never having a post in the net where you need to change the fence direction. Although this net comes with 14 posts, and we include an extra 5 posts in the kit, this may not be enough in all situations. This kit is ideal for a garden area to protect your hens from the terrors of the fox and badger (or even domestic cats and dogs) and the green 25m net will cover 39sq m (approx 20ft x 20ft). The electric shock will not harm the animals but will stop them attacking your chickens.

This electric netting kit uses a Hotline Centaur 9v Energgiser. A particularly flexible option as it works off a 9v disposable battery (included with this kit). It has 0.14 joules stored energy rating which would power a (realistic) fence length of 2 km - e.g. a 25m net has total length of 275 m electrified wires (11 electrified strands x 25m) but electric netting is often hard to keep 'short-free'.

The 55Amp/hr 9v disposable battery included in the kit is housed inside the Centaur which makes it a very neat unit, and the battery should last up to 15 weeks. Higher Amp/Hr batteries (up to 160 Amp/hr) are also available which will obviously last much longer.

The 25m netting we supply is green with black posts so it will blend into the background very well. We suggest you use one of the extra black posts to insert approx 1m from the end of the net to create a 'gateway', this will reduce wear and tear on the main netting and make access much easier. Or, a gateway is available to buy separately - see electric netting section.

Hangs on the fence and flashes with the rhythm of the electric pulses (approx. once every 5 seconds). Can be seen in the dark from a considerable distance to show the fence is working.

The constant flash does help to deter and un-nerve predators so acts as a deterrent. Particularly useful when hung on poultry netting.

If the fence voltage drops below 2000v the light will stop flashing.

Tip: Hang it near to where the power goes into the fence.
