Electric Fencing Kits for Horses and Chickens

Electric fencing for horses has a variety of uses. The most common reason for installing such fencing is to make a boundary to contain horses within a specific area or as a method of dividing an area of grazing into smaller sections. It can also be used to protect existing wooden fencing from damage, or to keep the horses away from muddy areas or anything else that could potentially cause them harm.

Electric fencing can be attached to an existing fence using plastic or rubber insulators, which can simply be screwed into the fence posts or other structures. This is the best option if the electric wire is intended to prevent the horses from chewing or rubbing on a permanent fence.

The alternative is to use moveable plastic posts, which happen to be the preferred option for most horse owners because of the versatility this system offers. The fencing can quickly and easily be moved as often as required and it can be dismantled and stored away when not in use. In the interests of safety, when electric wire is used for horses it should always be one of the most clearly visible types. This usually means wide white tape or the thickest cord in a bright colour. Green tape and thin wire is not suitable as it is almost invisible to a horse.

For chickens, electric fencing comes in the form of close mesh poultry netting with integral spiked posts that can easily be shaped into an enclosure and is no trouble to move when the chickens need a fresh patch of grazing. Electric netting provides an excellent way to stop chickens from wandering away and they rarely try to fly over it. It has the added benefit of keeping predators like foxes out of the enclosure, which is obviously important for the safety of the chickens.
